Words of Life Promise Box V2

As I read the words on today's promise card, all sorts of thoughts came to mind.  How many sermons have we heard and devotions have we read about seeking God first. I am not writing about those thoughts because when I searched for an image of the scripture to go with today's blog, I found the above image. "First things first".

"...Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." Matthew 6:33

Once you are saved and filled with the Holy Spirit a hunger develops. A hunger to be a godly man or woman. A hunger to serve. A hunger for the gifts God has for each of us. Health and prosperity are beautiful things God wants for us, but I am talking spiritual gifts. We yearn to make impact in the kingdom.

Unfortunately, it is easy to turn into a Martha when we begin seeking the kingdom of God. We get so caught up in tasks that we miss the opportunity to fellowship with God and other Christians. In the story of Mary and Martha, Mary is known as the sister who chose the better thing. She sat a the feet of Jesus and basked in his presence, listening to the Savior himself. Martha sometimes gets a bad rap. She was not a bad woman, she is task oriented. People need to be fed, the task must be accomplished. I have to admit, there is a little more Martha in my blood than I like.

Sometimes we get so caught up in doing service, doing fellowship events...that the quiet time with God becomes less and less. Many times we do not realize how depleted we become. We get frustrated because the word talks about not growing weary from doing good, yet we become weary. Here is the thing, if we fail to seek God and his kingdom first...everything else falls apart.

Being obedient, which is what guarantees the blessings of God (Deuteronomy 28), starts with seeking God. Matthew 6:33 is a classic "if/then statement". If you "seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness," then "all these things shall be added unto you."

As you seek God in prayer today, put Him first. Let's take a day where we are not running to Him saying, "Daddy, fix this". Today let's try just walking with Him. Let's try to incline our ear to him even more than yesterday. Perhaps, if we seek Him instead of petitioning Him for a while, we will find He has a better thing for us.

Keep first things first today! God bless!
